Day of the Dead Class and Cookbook Tasting

It was a dream workshop this week, sharing my recipes and telling the stories about my south Texas family. Thank you @erosbyerinschaumburg for hosting our gathering in your stunning boutique. I’m so grateful for the local attendees and for those who traveled hours to attend the workshop. I can’t express how appreciative I am that you continue to support and enjoy my work. Here’s a video of the class.

Our class discussed Dia de los Metros, a culturally rich Hispanic celebration that honors departed loved ones with joy, photos, bright colors, food and so much more. During this demonstration style class, I shared how to create an altar and the symbolism associated with each item. I discussed how food is an integral part of this celebration. Many of the recipes in my award-winning cookbook, My South Texas Kitchen, can be prepared for your altar. I discussed how to prepare pan de muerto, Day of the Dead bread and we tasted a variety of cookbook recipes that pertain to Day of the Dead. Many of the participants brought a photo of their deceased loved ones to add to the altar created during the class.
