Strawberry Hand Pies

It was a lazy weekend morning when I made these treats.  I love those early morning creative hours that fill the air with the wonderful aroma of baked treats.

I slathered the strawberry jam recipe from my cookbook on a rectangle of puff pastry.  I brushed the edges of the puff pastry with egg and topped it off with another rectangle of puff pastry.  The edges were crimped and sealed with the tines of a fork.  The top layer of puff pastry was brushed with egg wash, and the tarts were baked at 400°F until puffed and golden brown, about 30 minutes.

The hand pies were cooled and coated with a glaze made of  powdered sugar and water.  Add a few drops of color for a soft hue.

Enjoy!!!
