Bakehouse Pie Workshop With Joy The Baker

We’re right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season when we just can’t imagine adding another thing to our already packed schedule.  So, what does one do?  Schedule a pie baking workshop at the Bakehouse with Joy the Baker, of course.  Last week I was beyond excited to find out that I had secured one of six tickets to the first workshop at Joy Wilsons’ newly renovated home in New Orleans.  She has the wildly popular blog, Joy the Baker, and is a self-taught baker, turned professional baker, turned food photographer and cookbook author.

Our lively group spent the day learning about flour blends, local and mail order ingredient resources and the secret to Joy’s pastry crusts and pie fillings. We were assisted by Jon and Britt, and one very large and playful cat named Tron.  Our flavor packed lunch ended with a cup of hot chocolate topped with curried marshmallows.  Yes, it was incredible!  My picture-perfect apple cranberry pie was styled in a magazine worthy photo shoot that was casually arranged by a well-lit window. I left with a bag full of goodies from King Arthur Flour and Bellegarde Bakery. I’m most grateful to have made new pie-loving friends, and to have gained new tips and inspiration to fuel my pie making obsession.
